Fahreddin Pasha (Fahreddin Türkkan) was an important soldier and commander who served in the final period of the Ottoman Empire and is especially known as the Defender of Medina. During the First World War, he defended Medina against British forces and the Arab Revolt for approximately 2 years and 7 months and, even after the war ended, showed great resistance in refusing to surrender the holy city. Because of this stance, he is popularly known as the “Defender of Medina” and the “Tiger of the Desert.” Fahreddin Pasha is regarded as one of the symbolic figures of Ottoman military history for his loyalty, resistance, and devotion to sacred values.
